A day before the relaese of Zulfiqar, we see the movie's tracks ruling the music charts. We ask Srijit if
Anupam Roy ' known for his mellow, romantic tracks ' was a risky choice for a gangster film. 'I have always tried to push Anupam out of his comfort zone. And he has done a stupendous job.For three of the songs ' Ek purono masjide, Katl-e-Zulfiqar and Katakuti, he had to come out of his zone.
Ami ajkal bhalo aachi and Ghawrbari are vintage Anupam Roy. So there's variety in the soundscape, exactly the way I wanted' said the director.
Anupam, on his part, said, 'It was all about situations. Gang war was never a part of my songmaking themes. It was about emotions and situations. Death, revenge, powerhungry people, growing up, love, hate... that's what was important to me."
Well, whatever be his philosophy of songmaking, it worked.
